As young people we ar not just the future.
We are the present as well.
We are the right here and the right now.

Everyday we are bombarded with voices. We hear them on television and on the radio. We see them in the papers and magazines. But rarely do we hear or see the actual voices of the youth. Sure, magazines try to speak for us and news surveys predict our opinions.

But when do we get to speak? The answer is, now.

We do not need to wait until we are adults to speak out. Our opinions, ambitions, and goals are viable and significant right now. And most importantly, we do not need to be afraid to have a voice in our communities. People are truly interested in our thoughts and they will listen. When adults see youth taking on leadership roles and voicing opinions, their initial reaction is often one of surprise. It is as if they do not expect young people to care, to have a passion, and to speak out about it. Yet, the next reaction is usually one of willing support for what they have just witnessed.

The more often young people speak out effectively and eloquently, the more respect, support, and enthusiasm they will receive from their communities.

As young people, our job is not just to prepare for our future. It is to make that future happen today. Whatever you care about, speak it.
